Pura Stainless Sport Mini 11oz Bottle Review: Is It Worth It for Active Kids?

Finding a water bottle that can keep up with an active child is no small feat. From playground tumbles to soccer practice, the bottle needs to be durable, leak-proof, and easy for little hands to use. Enter the Pura Stainless Sport Mini 11oz bottle – a compact stainless steel option designed specifically for kids on the go. But does it live up to the hype? In this review, we put it to the test.

Pura is known for its commitment to safe, non-toxic materials and versatile designs. The Sport Mini is part of their popular Big Mouth® line, which promises an easy-to-clean, wide opening and a range of interchangeable tops. We spent several weeks using this bottle with our own active kids, and here's what we found.

Design and Build Quality

The Pura Stainless Sport Mini 11oz bottle is crafted from high-quality 18/8 stainless steel, which is known for its durability and resistance to rust and odor. The exterior is coated with a non-toxic, powder-coated finish that provides a good grip – a must for sweaty little hands. The bottle feels solid in the hand, yet it's lightweight enough for kids to carry comfortably.

One of the standout features is the wide mouth opening, which makes filling and cleaning a breeze. You can easily fit a bottle brush inside, and the lack of hard-to-reach crevices means no hidden mold or bacteria. The bottle is also compatible with Pura's Big Mouth® Silicone Sport Top and Big Mouth® Silicone Sport Straw, allowing you to switch between a spout and a straw as your child grows.

• Constructed from 18/8 stainless steel for durability
• Non-toxic powder-coated finish for a secure grip
• Wide mouth opening for easy cleaning and filling

Performance for Active Kids

We tested the Sport Mini during various activities – from bike rides to park playdates. The bottle features a leak-proof seal when the cap is closed, and we experienced no spills even when tossed into a backpack. The included Big Mouth® Silicone Sport Top has a soft, flexible spout that is gentle on gums and teeth, and it's easy for kids to open and close independently.

The 11oz capacity is ideal for younger children or as a secondary bottle for older kids. It fits in most cup holders and backpack side pockets, making it convenient for car rides and school lunches. While it doesn't keep drinks cold as long as some larger insulated bottles, it's sufficient for a few hours of play.

• Leak-proof design tested with no spills
• Soft silicone spout is easy on mouths
• Compact size fits in standard cup holders

Ease of Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning the Pura Sport Mini is refreshingly simple. The wide mouth allows for thorough hand washing, and the bottle is also top-rack dishwasher safe. The silicone parts can be removed and boiled for sterilization, which is a bonus for parents who prefer to sanitize regularly.

We appreciate that the bottle doesn't retain odors or flavors, even after being used for juice or milk. The stainless steel interior is non-porous, so there's no lingering residue. This makes it a great choice for families who want a hygienic option that's easy to maintain.

• Dishwasher safe (top rack) and easy to hand wash
• Silicone parts are removable and sterilizable
• No odor or flavor retention

Versatility and Accessories

One of the biggest selling points of the Pura system is its versatility. The Sport Mini can be paired with various tops and accessories, allowing you to customize the bottle to your child's needs. For example, the KikiTM 11oz Sippy Bottle is another great option for toddlers, while the Big Mouth® Silicone Sport Straw is perfect for older kids who prefer straws.

You can also purchase additional accessories like the KikiTM Silicone Bumpers to protect the bottle during drops, or KikiTM Silicone Travel Covers to keep the spout clean when on the go. This modular approach means the bottle can grow with your child, making it a smart long-term investment.

• Interchangeable tops for different ages
• Accessories like bumpers and travel covers add protection
• Grows with your child from toddler to tween

Comparison with Other Pura Bottles

If you're considering the Sport Mini, you might also be curious about other Pura bottles. The Big Mouth® Sport 18oz Bottle is a larger version that's better suited for older kids or longer outings. It shares the same durable construction and interchangeable tops, but the larger capacity means it's a bit heavier.

For parents looking for a complete lunch solution, Pura also offers Pura® Lunch Containers and Pura® Lunch Insulated Jars that pair perfectly with the bottles. These are great for packing healthy meals and snacks, ensuring your child has everything they need in one coordinated set.

• Sport Mini is lighter and more compact than the 18oz version
• Lunch containers and jars complement the bottle for school
• Consider your child's age and hydration needs when choosing size
